FAQ

Download the manual!

We have a short manual available for download. It requires Adobe PDF Reader, which you can obtain for free from Adobe.

The 'My Account' Section

Preferences
  • You can tailor the site to your needs. We don't want to waste your time by showing you adverts for tracks or albums that you won't be interested in so make sure you set your genre preferences and keep these updated.
  • We'll only show you adverts for the genres you're interested in or that are relevant to the pages that you are browsing.
  • Pick the format you buy most of so that you don't have to use the price drop-downs unless you want to change the format for a particular purchase.
  • If you have flash, use our specially designed player to get the most out of djdownload.com - more info on how to use the player can be found here
Recommended for You
  • When you first log in, we will show you a chart of 10 tracks that we think you'll be interested in based on your purchase history and genre preferences.
  • This chart is 100% live so as soon as you put something into your cart or buy something, we learn a bit more about you and the 'Recommended for You' chart will update - you might never need to leave this page!
Help & Information

At the bottom of the left hand panel, there is a Help & Information section where you can:

  • Send us Feedback
  • Apply to be an affiliate
  • Look at your order history and create a VAT invoice
  • Use a Gift Voucher
  • Check the status of your label Loyalty
  • Recommend a Friend

How Do I Search?

The site is set up to make it as easy as possible for you to find what you want:

  • Searching is just a matter of typing in keywords. If you don't select anything from the drop-down box, the site will search all fields for your keywords.
  • You can narrow down the search by selecting 'Artist', 'Title' or 'Label' from the drop-down box.
  • You can search on partial words and phrases

How do I browse?

There are quite a few browsing options available and they all do something a little different so we'll run through them one at a time:

Browse Music

Clicking on 'Browse Music' will allow you to browse by Label, Artists or focus in on any one of the genres we have on the site.

  • Browsing by Label or Artist will list every label or artist on the site and you can zone in on the ones you are after by clicking the letters on the screen to filter the results to only show labels or artists beginning with that letter.
  • If you click on one of the genre options, you will be taken to the genre landing page which highlights what's hot in that genre at the moment: best selling labels, genre specific news & featured tracks.
Albums

There are loads of great albums on the site with everything from compilations to exclusive mixes. Clicking on a genre under Albums will take you to a return of all albums in that genre on the site.

How do I see what's on the Album?

Click on the name of the album to go to the album details screen. The album details screen will have a description of the album, a track list (and if the individual tracks are available, you can listen to the samples for each track).

It's a double mix album but all I can see is two tracks - why?

A double mix album is simply a bundle of the 2 mixes, kind of like a double CD. If you go into the track list and click on the title of one of the mixes making up the album, you will be able to see the album details for that mix. Be careful though, if you do want to buy the double album as a package, you need to go back to the main album details page and make sure you are adding the right one to your cart.

What are the associated files?

If an album is sold complete with Artwork or Track Listings or a Cue File, this will be included with your album as a separate ZIP file. The cue file will allow you to burn a mix album to CD with full track markings.

New Releases

You can now set up your own new releases queries. Simply choose how far back you want to go, pick the music type you're interested in and select your genres. If you're logged in, you can even check for new releases since the last time you visited.

I picked a bunch of genres and now I can't see which ones are which?

You can use the 'Filter by:' drop-down to zone in on one of the genres you have chosen.

Promos

Promos are tracks where djdownload.com has been given the track in advance of the scheduled release date or the track is exclusively available on djdownload.com.

How can a digital track be limited?

The idea is to give the ordinary DJ a chance of getting the kind of really advance promo you would normally only be able to get if you were on the label's promo mailing list. Limited tracks will have a yellow coloured title throughout the site and, if you hover over the title, you can see exactly how many are left.

A limited track has sold out, what can I do to get it?

You can now pre-order a track if it is sold out. It will sit in your cart but you won't be able to pay for it until it is available again. When more copies become available or the track gets a full release, you will be informed by email. You don't pay anything until you actually check the track out (so no risk!) but it's a great way to make sure you get it as soon as it gets a full release. If you decide you don't want it when it gets the full release, you can just delete it from your cart.

Hot Picks

These are the guaranteed floor destroyers! With our media partners like iDJ, we pick what we think are the best tracks available on the site.

Latest Additions

You can check out the newest 30 labels to join djdownload.com or see what music we have added to the site (including all the back catalogue stuff).

What's the difference between 'New Releases' and 'Latest Additions'?

'Latest Additions' depends on when we upload the track to the site. It doesn't matter if the track is 5 years old, if we uploaded it yesterday, it will be in 'Latest Additions' - a great place to make sure you don't miss out on any gems you have been trying to get hold of for years.

Charts

DJ Charts

Pretty self-explanatory – these are charts submitted by some of the world's most cutting edge and superstar DJs, oh and sometimes just us djdownload.com staff.

Genre Charts

Click on a genre chart to see the best selling tracks in that genre for the last 7 days as well as an all-time chart for that genre.

Custom Charts

Now it gets really interesting, you can check out the best selling 10 tracks or albums in your chosen genres and pick the time period that the chart is for… pick and mix your genres… it's like being in the sweet shops of your youth.

Playing Samples

The djdownload.com Player

The site now comes with it's own player to enhance your experience. It can do loads of cool things to make buying your music easier:

  • If you click on the icon with the little speaker on it, you will add that track to the player and it will start playing immediately
  • If you click the playlist icon the track will be added to the bottom of the playlist but the track currently playing will not be interrupted.
  • From the player you can add items directly to your cart (it takes a couple of seconds after you click for it to appear in your cart but it does get there!)
  • Overall, the player functions much like your standard player but you can also see recommendations for the track currently playing and if you want to give that one a go, you can simply click on the up-arrow icon and it will be added to the playlist.
System Default Player

If you've used the old version of the site, it works the same way as it did before: the samples on djdownload.com have an m3u file extension and should launch your player and start playing as you click on the speaker icon. If they don't you may need to change your system defaults to tell your computer what program needs to be used for m3u files.

What is the difference between 192kpbs & 320kpbs?

In a word: quality! The 192 tracks are perfectly good enough to play in clubs or listen to, but if you want that extra bit for the big sound-system, go 320.

Are the tracks constant or variable bit-rate?

All DJDownload tracks are encoded at a constant bit rate.

I can't remember my password

If you click through to the reminder page you can fill in your email address and we will send you a password reminder by email. Otherwise there is a link to this page from the Registration page.

Why does my address have to be my credit/debit card billing address?

DJDownload has content from certain labels that do not have the right to sell in every territory. Since we are a global site, we need to ensure we don't sell these tracks to people in the wrong territories. Your billing address is the best way of checking this.

Can I share the music I buy?

Definitely not, sharing copywritten content is illegal and will kill the music we love. Ask your friends to buy their own, it isn't expensive.

Affiliate Scheme

You can earn revenue from djdownload.com as long as you have a relevant website with decent traffic. Simply register for our affiliate network by clicking here

The Tools

XML Feeds

We have several XML feeds which you can choose from and incorporate into your site and these will be automatically updated as djdownload.com is updated. The links will be correctly set up for you to ensure your affiliate revenue is accumulated correctly so don't change them unless you want to lose out.

Banners

If you choose to use a Banner Advert instead of an XML feed, you will only be eligible for Deep Referral Commission as we won't be able to link the click with any particular track.

The Cart / Wishlist

djdownload.com's shopping cart has been designed to work as a wishlist as well. As you are going through the site, you can add whatever interests you to the cart and then only check out certain tracks and leave the rest in your cart for another day.

What do the 'Buy now' checkboxes do?

If you want to only want to buy some of the items in your cart, you don't need to delete them. You can leave them there for next time by simply de-selecting the 'Buy now' checkbox for the item you don't want to pay for now.

How do I save what's in my Cart?

The cart is saved automatically. If you leave stuff in it, it will stay there until you check it out or delete it.

Download Tokens

Sometimes we will give you download tokens to use against tracks on the site. These do not expire and when you have some, you will see the tokens in your basket on the left of the tracks they can be redeemed against. Some tokens are label specific as they are awarded for your loyalty to a label and others are available for use against any track on the site. They look like little yellow coins, in case you were wondering.

Credit

When you have credit in your account (from a voucher, for example), we will show you the cash value of your credit available on the cart details page. If the value of your purchases exceeds the value of your credit, you will be asked to pay the balance by one of our payment methods. That way, you get to use every last penny.

Downloading

Download Managers

djdownload.com does not support any download managers. You need to temporarily disable them while using the site or they will cause problems.

Microsoft IE and Windows Media Player

Some users have reported a problem when using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. The problem exists with Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Media Player version 9 and below. Upgrading to XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player 10 should solve the issues.

Please visit Microsoft Windows Update to install the latest updates and service packs.

I get an error message when trying to download my file. Media bar opens and then crashes. What can I do?

To solve this you need to uncheck 'Play media in the media bar' settings in your media bar. Alternatively, upgrading to Windows Media Player 10 should solve the problem.

I get a box asking if I want to play the file in Internet Explorer. What option should I select?

You should select 'No' and check the 'Remember my preference' box:

If all goes well, what should I see?

You should get a 'save as' box. Select 'Save' and pick a directory to save your mp3 or zip file to. If your download is an album or a particularly large file, this may take a few seconds to appear:

I still get problems with Internet Explorer and Media Player. Do you recommend any alternatives?

A good combination is Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox) and Winamp (http://www.winamp.com). Both of these are available as free downloads.
